St. Bartholomew Academy (SBA) is a Catholic elementary school with grades pre-Kindergarten through eight. The school was founded in 1950 in response to a need to provide a Catholic education for the children of the newly established parish of St. Bartholomew the Apostle. In 1992, the school became co-sponsored by the two Roman Catholic parishes in Scotch Plains, St. Bartholomew the Apostle and Immaculate Heart of Mary which are both part of the Archdiocese of Newark. In 2009, the parish family of St. Bernards & St. Stanislaus in Plainfield became a third sponsoring parish. In 2012, we welcomed the parish famiy of St. Mary's in Plainfield as a sponsoring parish.

In 2000, SBA was accredited by the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools and is listed in their Directory of Accredited Schools (DOAS) Click here to access. In 2010, the Academy earned re-accreditation with the Middles States Commission on Elementary Schools. Today the school has approximately 230 students and is a thriving education institution dedicated to academic excellence in a value-forming environment.

The school is under the direction of the Religious Teachers Filippini who are based in Morristown, NJ. The Filippini order is dedicated to the ministry of education of youth and developing our children to become the leaders of tomorrow.
